I might be insane.

Yes, I might have just lost my tiny little mind...because I agreed to do an art festival next Saturday.  And yes, my son is only just about to be 7 months old this week.  Yeah...I might be crazy.

Back on the show train...
But!  It's a new show, I think this is their first one, and I'm getting in on the ground floor of it, so it's super exciting.  It's called Off 22nd, it's a home/yard show, and it's looking like it's going to be really cool.  They plan to do more, maybe partnering with local businesses to have art shows in front of coffee shops and places like that...so this could be the start of something great!

The usual show prep insanity is a little different with a baby...

A new print site and some Valentiney goodness

One of the things I forgot to mention during my late-pregnancy scramble last year: I joined another print site!  It's Boom Boom Prints, and here is my store on there.  It's more geared towards families and kids, so in addition to t-shirts, shower curtains, tote bags, etc. like on Society6, they also have onesies, maternity t-shirts, lunch bags...they even have dog clothing.

You can get a purple cow onesie!  Isn't that kind of the thing that's always been missing from your life?
You could even, theoretically, get a portrait of your dog ON a dog shirt, and they can wear their own likeness, if you were so inclined!

DOGCEPTION!
I've been trying out a new style, which I'll be rolling out onto Boom Boom Prints first, since it seems to fit there better...

Monday = cheap Cadbury egg day!

Happy Easter weekend, guys!  Here's a quick Easter piece I did, a bit of an experiment...

In two different colorways, just for fun...egg shapes were made in Illustrator, with a collage of different watercolor textures layered on in Photoshop.  Left side is Screen blending mode, right side I believe is Hard Light (looks kinda Eric Carle-ish to me).  These will also be up this afternoon on Society6 and my print store, in case anyone wants some last-minute Easter-y goodness...hint, hint...

We're not doing anything in particular for Easter...I just wanted to draw eggs.  But I'm realizing that in a couple years, though, we could be getting into the baskets-and-egg-hunts phase of childhood...which is great!  I'm kinda looking forward to doing all the holiday trappings that you do with a kid.  And I'm pretty good at hiding eggs, so I hope our kid is a good finder. ;)

Starting off strong...

Well, art fans, it's shaping up to be an exciting 2015 already, and we've barely even started!  I don't know what I did, but for some reason the universe has decided, "here, have some sprinkles on your 2015 cake!"  If, y'know, sprinkles were jobs and dollars.  I don't want to jinx it, but there's a project I'm in the running for that would really be a great opportunity...challenging, but that can be fun sometimes.

For another thing, we got our old house rented!

Scotty will miss the Art Shack.  As will I.
And we didn't even have to use a management company, so no management fees!  Of course, this means that I have to add "property management" to my long list of part-time jobs that I do, but I don't mind.  I'm just happy to have the house taken care of and not have to pay two mortgages anymore, let me tell you...

I also got my first Etsy custom order!  This is exciting.

Attitude of gratitude

First off, as an online business I am compelled to plug a Cyber Monday deal: $5 off everything and free worldwide shipping in my Society6 store today!  You know you want this tote bag.

Secondly, Thanksgiving Weekend just ended for us United Statesians, which means a few different things: you're probably figuring out where to put all the stuff you bought on various Black Friday sales (I didn't go to any...I try not to, and especially not since I'm moving and have enough stuff to tidy up already!), you're probably still eating turkey and various turkey-related leftovers, and hopefully, it also means that you thought about things you're thankful for, i.e. the real meaning of the holiday, not just eating lots of food and buying cheap electronics.

Pre-Thanksgiving table setup at my mom's house this year.  Invisible chairs!

So here's a shortlist of things I'm thankful for...

The art shows cometh...

Well, the fall art festival season is in full swing...I've been looking into new art shows to do, found several promising ones to apply to, and one new one I'm going to be doing very soon...

...which is Maker's Square, at Tucson's Maker House!  The reasons why this is exciting are many and various... (plus other news items under the cut)

Insert pun about stones here (I've run out of puns!)

Well, I said they were coming...and now they're here!

Painted stones...that you can wear.  Booyah.  And now they're on Etsy too!

Nothing to wine about.

People like wine, right?  Most people, although I know not all people...but even if you don't, you know someone who LOVES wine.  So here's a promo for you: buy one of my art prints, and get a $100 gift certificate for wine as a free bonus.

Seriously!

Took me a while to find a piece of art I've done with wine in it!  This one is super old, but I do like the colors...
There's some more details here, including information about the wine company that's giving the gift certificates, the terms and conditions, and blah blah...but the main point is, BUY ART AND GET FREE WINE!

Heck, I might even buy a print from some other artist in order to take advantage of this deal myself...and it's only during the month of July, from what I can see, so go get it!

We made it!

So...I was out at work today, nervous because I was expecting an email from an art festival I had applied to, because their jury date was today.  Didn't get an email during work...then afterwards, as I was heading to the library, I checked my phone in my car just before taking my books in...and there it was.

I GOT IN!

This happy Scotty picture expresses my joy.  Except he's kinda understating it a little.  I may have done a happy dance in my car when I got the email.
So you can expect to see me at the Hilton Indoor Fine Art Show on August 23rd and 24th, if you are in the greater Tucson area.

And what does this mean for me?  Well, a lot...

This week in art

Well, it's been a big week around here, dudes...I got another craft fair lined up, possibly some gallery show time this summer, another cat portrait commission, and am just up to my eyeballs in DOING STUFF.  It's fun stuff, though.  It's a good thing I get so much sleep, otherwise I would never have the energy to do all the things I do. ;-)

Except when these two menaces to society wake me up at 5 AM.  "Hi mom!  We need food right now!"  Cue cold dog nose in face.
Plus there are occasionally soccer games going on.  That makes it a little hard to be productive sometimes.  Heh.

It's Etsy time!

I have an Etsy shop!

New stone for sale!  You know you want it.
You know, it's funny...if you look back through the archives of this blog, you can see another similar announcement about five years ago...but this time around Etsy is WAY more user-friendly and so I think it'll be a lot more successful.  Since it won't be so difficult to add new things, I predict that I'll soon be adding tons more new things to the shop!

For instance, now you can COPY LISTINGS!  So I can just make one listing for, say, medium-sized painted stones, and copy it and put in different pictures each time, but the price, shipping profile, and the basic description of the item stays the same, instead of having to enter that stuff each time like how it used to be, which was really tedious.  Soooo much easier.

My shop still needs some work (a banner being the biggest thing right now...that and listings for other things I make), but at least I have one.  Time to order new business cards!

Show prep madness!

As I may have mentioned, I'll be selling my work at Monterey Court here in Tucson this Saturday night...actually, I'm pretty sure I only mentioned it that one time, because ever since it's been finalized I've been in major preparation mode.

A Pile O'Prints!  Plus on the left you can see a package I just shipped - a cat portrait off to Florida.
I ended up making 17 large prints (like the ones above), 20 smaller prints, and six sets of greeting cards.  So Tuesday was Packaging-fest 2014!

Hey, you! You need t-shirts!

It's just a big week for this little ol' art business all around...preparing for the show next week, and now, Society6 has informed me that my t-shirts are on sale!

I bought this one.  Is it not perfect to wear to yoga?  Or just on any day when you anticipate you'll need a little extra bless-and-releasing?
It goes through Monday, and it's $5 off any t-shirts (this style shown above, plus v-necks or tank tops).  So that lovely shirt shown above is only $19.  Plus shipping is FREE.  You don't see that every day, folks.

Check out these possibilities...

Stop the presses! I have a show!!!

So...I have been in contact with someone at Monterey Court (I've posted about them a few times before), talking to them about the Miracle Marketplace, which is basically a little art flea market/pop-up shop thing.  I asked them when their busiest days would be, so I could come set up a booth there and feed off the crowd, and it turns out there is a big concert coming up there, which they are saying is The Concert Of The Summer for them.

And it's on May 31st.  So...it's in a week.

And I'm going to have a vendor booth there...this was decided this week.

Cue the frenzy!

Some of the stones I'll have for sale - plus many many more

New prints!

It's that time again...time for new things to go up in my print shop!

"The Ceremony", watercolor and ink
Some of these date back to December of last year...the only camera we have that takes high-resolution photos had its battery completely die.  As in, would not take a charge for mysterious reasons known only to the battery.  So when my husband got a replacement battery I was immediately like, "yay, prints!"  I get really excited about these...

I also want to ramble about a couple of these new pieces...brace yourself for art-geeky talk about colors and stuff...

And now for a shameless plug...

So, this weekend I manned a booth at an arts festival (not for my art, but for the jewelry designer I work for as a "day job").  I'll probably do a post later on down the line about "tips for having your art in a craft fair/street fair/arts festival type thing," because I've done a few shows now and I learned a LOT.  It's exhausting hauling stuff back and forth and standing at your booth in the sun all day, but it gets easier each time you do it.

But!  That's not the point of this post, because this post...is to get you to vote for me!

Eegee's (a local-to-Tucson fast food chain, famous for ranch fries and fruity slush drinks that change flavors every month) was having a t-shirt design contest, and so of course I was going to enter.  Not just because the prize is a free combo meal each week for a year, either (although that helps), but also just because, well, I think this t-shirt would be cool and I would wear the heck out of it. :P

Click here to vote!  I also submitted another design, and although I don't like that one as much as this one, I certainly wouldn't complain if it won instead, so here's the link.

And yes, the skull should look familiar if you've seen my portfolio...I tweaked it a little and added the lemons and strawberries, because those are two of Eegee's three regular flavors (the other is pina colada, and they also have a different Flavor of the Month each month.  I like the watermelon, which they usually have in July...although last week's blueberry lemon was pretty darn good.)

So that's it!  Vote, vote, vote!  Tell your friends to vote!  Tell your enemies to vote!  Tell your dogs to vote!  Every little bit helps.

Phone clothing

So I was at an arts festival a few weeks ago (manning a booth for the company I work for, not for myself...although some day maybe I'll pull enough of my art and prints together to have my own booth!).  I was having a customer sign off on a purchase she had made with my iPhone's credit card reader.

And I noticed that my phone was, actually, quite unsightly.  I've had an Otter case on it for a year and a half, and after dropping it repeatedly, getting beach sand and desert grit in it, and popping the case off a couple times to clean it out, it got sort of...frayed.  The rubber bit was fitting loosely and pieces of it had come off, it was not a nice-looking case anymore like when I first got it.  I felt weird about handing this gnarly phone to a customer who had just dropped $200 at our booth.  I imagine it was not confidence-inspiring to her.

Point being, I really need a new phone case.

Fortunately, the print service I use, Pixels.com, will make prints out of my artwork!  And for less than my Otter case cost, too!  Of course, I'll still have to get a screen protector for it, but still: pretty phone case!  Yes!

I predict that seahorses are the new birds.  You'll be seeing them "put a seahorse on it" on Portlandia soon, just watch.

Much better.

I think this one would make a good case too.  How about this oneThis one would just be weird, though.
